The Finnish Chronicles
This blog is the beginning point for extended research into the story of the Finns, both in myth and history, both in Finland and America. It is our hope that, as we post our discussions about the research we are undertaking towards writing historical fiction, you...the readers of this blog...will add your own comments, information and even recollections.

We are eager to hear from any and all who are interested in or can contribute stories about what we
all like to call "the old days". No story is too small or too ordinary.
Let me tell you a little about how this project came to be.
About eight years ago, I read a book, obscure enough that I do not remember the title or author.
It was about a Danish prince creating the first unified Danish kingdom.
There were some good battles with a Norwegian king who employed a mercenary band of strange and
mysterious Finnish warriors with shamans who controlled the weather. Naturally, I was more intrigued
by the Finns than the Danes of the main plot.
It struck me as the beginnings of a lost tale.
I had made the mistake almost everyone makes in thinking that the Finns were merely another breed of
Scandinavian. That story and some research showed me that it was not so. Wouldn't it be fun to tell the story of these Finns, I thought? To
reveal these people not as footnotes to history, but as players on the main stage? It was too rich to pass up, a swirling mass of all
the adventure and mystery a good tale requires.
I told a co-worker, whom I had recently met, about my idea for a story and found not only
agreement with my idea, but a Finn to boot! Born and bred in the North of Minnesota, Land of the Finns in America!
Here was someone directly connected to the story from the start.
So, fast friends since and reasonably
successful business partners too (meaning we work well together), Keith and I have finally come full circle to
start where we began, with the story of the Finns, in history and myth.
